Making Travel Plans

So I've decided that this year I will fill in some of the blanks on my US Riding Map.

I am researching each state, looking for a memorable point of interest. My objective is to find interesting destinations in states I don't know a lot about and hold a preconceived notion that the middle of the country is flat and boring. I'm willing to have my opinion swayed.

I want to keep the total miles to Billings at about 3,500 because I have 6 days to get out there.

Right now it looks like I can pick up the following 8 states: KY, MS, AK, MO, OK, KS, NE & CO.
So far I have two waypoints picked.

Well that looks like fun. I have a few suggestions but I took a slightly different route than this, from Phoenix to Boston (4,000 miles) over 8 days. We did a loop in south western Colorado, in the Telluride, Silverton & Euray area. That was nice. Arizona was my favorite place, from Sedona to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Carson National Forest, in New Mexico, was a nice road too. We did the Natches Trace in Alabama/Mississippi. The Cherahala Highway in North Carolina. The Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA.

A big plus 1 for the Mount Magazine Byway! Just finished a 4 week trip last month to the Texas Hill Country from Connecticut via the Blueridge, the GMR, the Natchez Trace and back riding a bit more north and west of the route down. Stumbled upon Mount Magazine on the way back and enjoyed it immensely.

One suggestion would be to get a hold of the Butler maps for the Ozarks and the Rockies. Lots of good roads on there.

Are you going to do the TOR rally in Paonia on your way to the MOA? I did it last year, its the week before, and I'm going to do it again this year.

Another ride to do is Lolo pass in Idaho. Its either US 12 or Idaho 12.

I appreciate the Mt Magazine confirmation, it makes it easier to keep it on the plan! I won't have time to do Paonia that way my leave date is shaping up. Another time. Thanks for the Idaho referal, I don't think I'll make it that far West this trip.
